Welcome to our BK community moments

Welcome to our BK community moments

I had a lot of fun opening the shop with Emil, Amanda, and Frido on Sunday. It was perfect California October weather (crisp morning and T-shirts in the afternoon) for sweet analogue moments. Usually, when I help open the shop, I am so immersed that five hours go by quickly without moments to pause and capture snapshots. So, I made a conscious effort on Sunday to snap a few corners of the shop before and during our time together.

What I love so much about our opening hours is the spontaneously nurtured connections around our big analogue table. The table is enough for six to eight people to sit around, and everyone gathers to stamp on their journal pages. Naturally, the conversation between the community flows like a river, starting with “Can I see your notebook?” Sharing the inside of the notebook feels so much like a gesture of opening our hearts. Everyone’s pages are so different and beautiful in their unique ways. I often witness that there is no judgment around the analogue table at BK. The dialogue is filled with shared enthusiasm, supportive conversation, and a common acknowledgment that we are kind to each other and it’s okay to be different…

Also, I am thrilled to see the magic in displaying all the fun analogue artifacts around the shop. Frido often finds unusual vintage containers and storage systems, and Emil somehow makes them work with all of the analogue artifacts we carry. I recently saw some photos of our shop from 10, 5, and 3 years ago, and wow. The number of items we share has grown so much, and I know how challenging it sometimes can be to create a welcoming space, showcasing what we love (which is pretty much everything we carry) while maintaining the calm oasis energy. I think Emil does an amazing job:)

The world sometimes feels chaotic and confusing to me, with so much energy spent validating opposing opinions and harshly criticizing one another. In a small way, I am grateful that we can create an oasis where everyone can relax and be themselves…, enjoy small analogue moments in the company of a like-hearted community…, and contribute to the goodness of the world together.

Our opening hours are listed on our website. If you are in town on the days we open, I hope you join us to make the ripples of goodness even more resonant.
