Shifting the Gears

Shifting the Gears

After two months of holding the BK fort as a solo physical operator, I am thankful to shift gears as our State and County have eased the Safe at Home ordinance and now Nerine is back at the studio to continue shipping our online orders. From this week, Nerine will be shipping our online orders three days a week and I will be helping with the shipment on Saturdays while accommodating our curbside pickup service. Ame will come into the studio as-needed basis when there are enough TrulyYours orders for her to fill a day of studio work. We are still very cautious so we are only staffing one person at a time at the studio and remaining BK team members will continue to work virtually from their homes.

For the most part, my work station has drastically changed from being at BK to my home analogue table. Even though it was challenging to shift our teams' tasks overnight in mid-March and what we had to go through was nowhere near the ideal, I don't think I will ever forget the last two months at BK. To gain an opportunity to physically ship every one of our online orders as I had time to contemplate and think about what it meant to welcome our 10th year. As I busily moved my hands to wrap each one of the orders, my mind was full of gratitude and wonder for where we have been, where we are, and where we might be in the future. I had so little time to reach outward during these two months as the fulfillment of orders naturally took over the priority of my days and just as how other BK team members operate, I was focused solely on the task of caring for each parcel when I stood at our fulfillment table.

My friend Susan sent me this quote by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

"The real things haven't changed. It is still best to be honest and truthful; to make the most of what we have; to be happy with simple pleasures; and have courage when things go wrong".

Like many things in life, I have no idea how the experience of today shapes my future. But I can feel the inner focus as I sit at my home desk, the groundedness that wells from the experience of spending many solitary hours at BK for the last two months. Today, as I move forward with a new era of my remote work, I am looking forward to devoting time to write to mark the milestone of 10 years in my personal way, to heighten the calm energy on our website that will communicate as a reflection of who we are, to hear my kids' voice from other rooms and occasionally watch them come into the room because they are so excited to share something special with me and to find happiness in my simple life.
