Earlier this year, our wise BK customer Tiffany shared an insight with me through an email exchange. She wrote, "2020 was a year that asked a lot of questions, and we’re hoping to live our way into some answers in 2021". Her quote made me pause and ponder about the meaning of the year 2021. When I read the stories submitted by our wonderful contributors, what emerges so vividly in my mind is how they are dancing with their past, present, and future selves. Tiffany's quote and this months' stories lead me to visualize how we relate to each season in a more circular manner. Like gliding through a spiral staircase that moves through time to make sense of lifelong questions.
Eunice reflects on how she treasures time with her beloved grandfather through his letter. I love that she carries his letter with her in the notebook to revisit the memory when her heart calls for it. A.C. is sharing their daily thumbnail sketches on JIYU monthly spread pages. The practice has become their way of being more in tune with the mood of the time. Trina gives us a glimpse of her inner process of how the 2021 "current Trina" is relating to the 2016 Trina (I have recently stumbled upon my 2017 and 2018 planners, and I felt similar to how Trina felt about her 2016 analogue setup - I barely recognize or relate how I used to operate then.)
As we turn the midpoint of 2021, I wonder if you might be having alike experiences of going up and down the spiral staircase of time, living your way into answering some questions that might have been brought up to the surface during the previous year.
Wherever you are on the journey, I send you warm thoughts and radiant light. I hope it brings you comfort to know that we are all somewhere on that spiral staircase.
