Spring afternoon with BK community in Hamburg

Spring afternoon with BK community in Hamburg

I can’t believe it has been only two weeks (plus a few days) since I got to spend time with our BK friends in Hamburg!!! It was one of those perfect Hamburg spring days (which I heard from locals “could be” rare) with gorgeous alfresco weather. Our local friend Dodo kindly arranged a table at a cafe near Frido’s parents’ home in Hamburg, so it was a bike ride away for us to meet up with everyone.

Our guests traveled from other parts of Hamburg, Berlin, Switzerland, and Saarbrücken (Beate of Roterfaden joined us, too).

Frido and I hosted this meet-up a day after we arrived in Hamburg, so I wasn’t sure how my inner system would function (with jet lag and all…). But with enough sunshine, multiple cups of Latte Macchiato, and a beautiful company of like-hearted friends, I felt so energized to be there.

This was the second time Frido attended the BK gathering. Between design projects, Truly Yours, and online content creation (on top of listening to me talking about BK day and night), he contributes a lot to BK. But with our family schedule, it’s usually me at the studio during our Sunday opening hours, aka our community day. So opportunities like this for him to mingle with our BK friends are invaluable.

I absolutely loved seeing everyone’s beautiful journal pages and spreads, as well as a twin TSL Pen Roll. Also, some guests moved to Germany from other parts of the world, so I was really inspired to listen to everyone’s life journey. I was grateful to hear that the analogue community, in some way, helped some of them to feel more at ease, even though they were away from their homes. With all the spontaneous chats and candid sharing, time went by so fast. When I realized that it got a little too chilly to be sitting outside, it was also everyone’s time to catch their return train and flight home.

I often feel plenty of solitude when traveling in Germany. Mainly because we tend to keep to ourselves and spend time with our kids and extended family. I enjoy quietness in a sea of a language that is foreign to me. But it was so nice to mix things up on this trip and kick off our days in Hamburg surrounded by laughter and mutual love for all things analogue. It filled my heart so much.

Thank you, Dodo, Beate, Michelle, Stella, Yvette, Caroline, and Barry. I am so looking forward to catching up with you again when we visit our family in Hamburg. I am also seriously thinking of hosting a meet-up in Berlin in the future. Wouldn’t that be fun?

This is an afternoon of lasting memory and sparkling inspiration. Thank you, dear Wakako, for putting that special moments into words.
