On Sunday (3/16), we celebrated our very first opening hours at BK Eagle Rock.
And what a fantastic day it was!
Our entire team, including Kei from Kyoto and Eunice from OC, joined us in opening the shop to mark this special milestone. And wow. There were many beautiful and connecting moments with our BK friends throughout the afternoon, who showered us with celebratory energy.
With the help of all of the BK team members, Emil took the lead in curating the details and flow of the space, and each little corner shined through so beautifully. I loved watching our guests walk in through the front door and take a full moment to take it all in as they stood inside the entrance, and our young guests took delight in discovering a little corner of the Sylvanian family with their analogue artifacts. The new community space is almost twice as big as the last one in Altadena, and it was delightful to spread all of the artifacts we adore so much and give them the space they absolutely deserve.
I nicknamed a little nook in the corner “BK time tunnel” to create a collage of experiences we shared as BK in the last 15 years - all the way to my flea market days when I headed out at 5 am in a little VW with the entire BK packed inside to set up 10x10 booth at Rose Bowl Flea Market, rain or shine. Printing all of the old photos in preparation for this project was so much fun and made me feel nostalgic about how far we have come with the support and love of our community. I hope this corner will continue to be a hidden gem where I get to add more layers of happiness with our family and friends.
Our analogue table held many serendipitous moments while our brand new guest book (minimally and beautifully decorated by Eunice) offered an open page for many guests to add their marks. Frido brought in the vintage emboss/foil machine from Truly Yours workshop to add a one-of-a-kind foil design to each guest’s notebook and leather cover.
I hope the foil design will gently remind all of us of this memorable experience.
This opening day symbolized the end of our Altadena chapter and the beginning of a new Eagle Rock chapter for Baum-kuchen, in synch with our 15th anniversary.
I don’t know what will be ahead of us… but however our future unfolds, I am looking forward to growing our roots in Eagle Rock and continuing to journey through the BK life.
