Speaking of a milestone, it has also been almost a year since we relocated our studio from Altadena to Eagle Rock. (Yes. It was an incredibly full February and March in 2025. Thinking of those days makes me feel a bit dizzy.)
It has been fun to see the space take shape at various stages of evolution. We added a few new (old) pieces of furniture to the storefront to better use the larger shop area. Usually, Frido finds them locally through various treasure-hunting sources. I am really enjoying the aesthetic combination of rich leather artifacts, along with beautiful colors, and the texture of softer items. As partnerships with makers and other creatives grow and evolve over time, our display slowly reflects the relational thread and shifts, too.
We also added a vintage Japanese mailbox (lovingly restored by Frido) to the side of our cashier table. This is for in-person customers who like to write postcards at our analogue table and send them out to their loved ones from BK.
I’m often at the studio during our Sunday afternoon opening hours, and it has been lovely to meet everyone who stops by and be immersed in the BK experience. I especially love seeing our customers join us for mini-analogue moments around our community table. There are occasional busy moments when space feels a little fuller with more walk-in customers than usual, but we enjoy keeping the very relaxed, unrushed oasis vibe.
I will be opening the shop this Sunday before heading out to the airport. I hope I get to see you if you are in town:)
