As we walk our path... // BK Love Letter, December 2024

Greetings from California. I hope you are stepping into the last month of 2024 gently. During Thanksgiving week, our kids had a week off from school. Everyone in the family (including Mango and Frido) has safely made it back to the West Coast after we decided to move back to California from Asheville. So, Thanksgiving week this year was a special time of togetherness for us. Now that the dust is settling down, I am so grateful that I can pour my energy into making the BK Sunday opening hours extra intentional, writing more, and supporting the team in fulfilling our online orders.

This month, we interviewed José Naranja, an artist behind the inspirational manuscripts (@jose_naranja). As a fellow analogue enthusiast who loves the tangible sensation of a pen flowing over the paper, his notebook pages are captivating and full of wonder. Through the interview story, I learned a little more about how he set off on his journey, leaving his career in aero engineering to explore and create full-time.

A.C. shares their process of archiving Traveler's Notebook refills using the Archive Binder. How they forecast the upcoming year's "word" around the new year and see it unfold is inspiring, especially because they also lean into accepting the words that surprised them during and after the year has passed. I am, of course, very intrigued by their word for 2025, "Arrogance." As a fellow rebel, I can relate to the version of the definition to which they are gravitated.

When I think of the two stories we are sharing this month and our family's journey this year, the quote, "When you start to walk on the way, the way appears,” by Rumi comes to my mind. I find our capacity to hope, dream, imagine, then leap into momentum, and continue to trust and seek a path forward very uniquely human. I feel inspired by my friends' and families' boldness and courage to keep living and loving their lives fully, and I like to go into this month and 2025 with the kind of inner gusto.

Sending many warm thoughts to you as you enjoy the extra family and friend time while celebrating the winter holidays wherever you might be...
