Welcome back to another quarterly calendar drawings post! Here’s the story of my summer, as told in fountain pen ink doodles:
May:
Ink color: Blue Sky - Lennon ToolBar
June:
Ink color: Fuji-sugata (Shikiori Series) - Sailor
July:
Ink color: Epinard (Jentle Ink Series) - Sailor
August:
Ink color: Melon Tea - Robert Oster
Recently, I heard that seeing these calendar drawings inspired some people to try it out in their own planner systems, too. I’m so happy to hear it! I’ve come back to this habit again and again since 2020 because of how effectively it helps me remember little details of the passing days. Long-term, it’s also a way of training yourself to recognize what memories you personally find worth holding on to, and maybe why. Imagine the calendar’s grid lines become compartments in a wooden drawer for collecting knick-knacks. With only a tiny space to fill, it makes what you choose to keep in each box that much more special. I hope everyone trying out calendar doodles will continue to find joyful and contemplative moments as they build their one-of-a-kind collection.
In other news, I’ve finally managed to finish my years-long backlog of ink samples. Witness the aftermath:
Lately, I feel a determination (or perhaps desperation) to tighten my belt, spend as little on new things as possible and use up supplies I’ve accumulated instead. I wonder if I can run through my larger bottles of ink, next? Maybe the last quarter of 2025 will reveal the answer. Whether you’re tapping into the energy of a tree shedding excess leaves to save energy, the instinct of a creature stocking up on supplies for seasons ahead, or both at once—here’s to fall.
