“Plant is a powerful medicine, friend, and ally. What if the plant-medicine tincture is in the form of notebooks instead of a bottle?”

草花の響き - Botanical Resonance - is a notebook that is crafted entirely by hand, one notebook at a time, by Wakako of Baum-kuchen in Topanga Canyon. The front cover features an organic design created with plant dyes to infuse the unique imprints of plant magic, both metaphorically and visually. Every step in creating the journal, from the initial collection of plant materials to the final binding, is intentionally undertaken.

Plant Story of Hummingbird Sage (color variation in blush/warm grey): Unlike other native sages that prefer direct sun, Hummingbird Sage often grows in the understory of ancient oak trees in the Santa Monica Mountains. Though they quietly fill the shady spots in the canyon with their soft leaves, once they bloom, their presence is unmistakable as the deep magenta flowers attract pollinators such as hummingbirds. When steeped, their leaves produce a blush-pink tea with a mild fragrance and a gentle flavor. Their attributes are calming, supportive, and restorative.
Plant Story of White Sage (color variation in cool grey): White Sage is an important ceremonial tool for local indigenous tribes. With its distinct presence both in fragrance and color, White Sage graciously cleanses the space and creates a container for sacredness. As wild foraging is discouraged to respect the White Sage's cultural significance to indigenous people and to ensure the species' survival in the wild, White Sage used to create Botanical Resonance journals is a generous gift from family and friends' gardens.

Plant Story of Mugwort (color variation in amber): An image of a wise and hardy grandmother figure emerges when the name "Mugwort" is called. Mugwort is a support for dreamwork and is an earthy gift of abundance and resilience. It can be steeped as tea or dried and stuffed in a sachet. We love placing a small sachet of dried Mugwort in our pillows to welcome its nighttime magic. Often growing next to Poison Oak along canyon creekside, oil from Mugwort leaves can help ease skin irritation that occurs when you come in contact with Poison Oak.

We hope that these notebooks, with their unique resonance, will land in your hands at the right time and in the right place, bringing both the joy of journaling and medicine from the natural world into your everyday life.
