[Chicktack] Bamboo Market Basket

“Do we have any functional artifact in our lives that only a single person was involved in, from the material creation itself to the completion of an object?”

This was a question we pondered when we first encountered Bamboo baskets handcrafted by Taku-san of Chicktack, who is involved in every part of bamboo basket-making, from sourcing/processing bamboo to finishing the baskets on Yakushima Island, Japan. 

The traditional weaving patterns on the Bamboo Market Basket not only make the basket incredibly sturdy and durable but also offer a visually tactile experience. In today's world, where we are accustomed to seeing many parts of everyday products made of synthetic materials, these baskets stand out in bamboo's singularity and purity. While holding the basket, it's easy to be swept away into a quiet bamboo forest on a remote island of Japan, where it came from.

Bamboo Market Basket can accompany you during your farmer's market run (and is strong enough to carry hefty produce) as well as bring a sense of elegance and style when you are out and about in the city.
